The Shadow World: Johan Grimonprez, 15 December 2015, 6 pm, Witte the With centre

The Shadow World is a feature film by director Johan Grimonprez (1962) that explores the global arms industry, a business in which profits are calculated in tens of millions of dollars, while losses are counted in human lives. The film pulls back the curtain from the secretive world of the global arms trade to reveal the corruption and the cover-ups behind weapons deals. At Witte de With extracts of the film are shown followed by a Q&A with Johan Grimonprez.

Artist and filmmaker Johan Grimonprez was born in 1962 and studied in New York at the School of Visual Arts and the Whitney Museum Independent Study Programme. He first came to prominence in 1997 when his highly acclaimed one-hour video montage, Dial H-I-S-T-0-R-Y, a version of which is included in ARTIST ROOMS, was first shown at Centre Pompidou, Paris and Documenta X, Kassel.
