Dusk & Dawn | Erwin Olaf

Solo exhibition at Hermitage Amsterdam

In Dusk and Dawn, the latest series by Erwin Olaf on show at the Hermitage Amsterdam, Olaf is revealing the interconnection between humans and their social environment in his stunning manner. In Dusk Olaf has depicted an African American family that seems to be trapped somewhere in its notion of a widespread bourgeois environment. In Dawn he reversed the elements from Dusk and created a Caucasian bourgeois family in early twentieth century Russia, this time not in black-on-black but shot in white tones.
