Anoek Steketee joins the gallery
July 1, 2015
Flatland is extremely proud to start working with Dutch photographer Anoek Steketee!
Under the patronage of the Mondriaan Fund, Anoek Steketee is nominated for the 2015 Prix de Rome. An international jury will announce 4 finalists on April 15th, 2015.
Steketee exhibited her work recently in the ‘On the Move photography’ exhibition at the Stedelijk and FOAM. With journalist Eefje Blankevoort (Montreal, CA, 1978) she did a trans-medial project, about the process of reconciliation in post-genocide Rwanda, based around a popular radio soap.
It consists of a web documentary (www.loveradio-rwanda.org), photographs and installations.
Love Radio straddles the thin line between fact and fiction. The photographs of listeners in gloomy settings and fairy-tale landscapes are combined with installations which reveal a more complex reality. While in the soap happy endings predominate, reconciliation in real life is rather more intransigent.
The project addresses the role of the media in society and the emergence of collective thinking and scapecoating.
