Exactitudes as inspiration for Vetements!

February 16, 2017

Anyone who has been checking the fashion section in the press lately, must have seen the unveiling ‘Vetements AW17 collection. The fashionshow took place at the end of January at Centre Pompidou during Paris Couture Fashion Week.
Demna Gvasalia, whom is the designer of Vetements, studied for months to create a new stage for the clothing line. Due to his fascination for uniforms and the way people dress, he discovered the work Exactitudes from the Dutch photographer Ari Versluis and profiler Ellie Uyttenbroek. This is how Exactitudes became the driving force behind the ‘Vetements ‘AW17 collection. Over the past twenty years Versluis and Uyttenbroek documented over 150 different identities, due to their shared interest for the dress codes of social groups. The Vetements show was focused on these different dress codes from the many social groups, such as punks, secretaries and bouncers. With this fashion show Vetements explored the idea of how clothes are used to create an identity and could possibly started a new era for fashion, where individualism is not a necessity.
