Paolo Ventura in Leoncavallo’s masterpiece

Pagliacci, Ruggero Leoncavallo’s masterpiece is in Turin, 125 years after its premiere. The direction is signed by Gabriele Lavia, actor and director among the most representative of the last decades of the Italian theatre. Nicola Luisotti is conducting at the Regio the Orchestra and Chorus of the Teatro. Tenor Fabio Sartori (from the Teatro alla Scala to the Metropolitan) plays Canio who sings the most important and popular scene in this opera, the aria “Vesti la giubba (Put on the costume).

Sets and costumes were created by photographer Paolo Ventura who for over two years worked on numerous sketches of landscapes and costumes for the characters in the opera. These are now on view at CAMERA, Italian centre for photography in Turin until 19 February 2017.

The opera by Leoncavallo is performed at the same time until 22 of January in Teatro Regio in Turin.
