The Amsterdam Trail combining Guy Yanai and spirit board (gope)
April 28, 2017
The gallery is participating in The Amsterdam Trail on 5, 6 and 7 May, 2017 in which tribal and contemporary art. from 3000 BC to present, from Egyptian mummies to latest contemporary works are combined.
Guy Yanai’s work will be juxtaposed with an Era – River/ Papuan Gulf wood sculpture, a spirit board (gope) which is a primarily two-dimensional object, with carved figures in low relief from ± 1900s, on loan from Jaap Polak Gallery.
The Papuan Gulf region encompasses the arts and cultures on the southeast coast of New Guinea. In the past, the primary focus of religious and artistic life in the region was on powerful spirits.
