Katharine Cooper to northern Iraq

On Wednesday 11 November, 2015, Katharine Cooper is heading to the Middle East to photograph the traumatized refugees in the camps in Northern Iraq.

Cooper’s voyage starts in Beirut where a delegation attachted to NGO Chrétiens d’Orient will guide her overland to Damascus, Syria. She will then travel 1.100 km to Irbil in northern Iraq where she will be taking photographs people in the refugee camps, many of who are Christians who were asked to choose between renouncing their faith, exile or death. Erbil is the capital of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, that has become a refuge for these Christian exiles. Cooper will also start here on her project on women soldiers in the Kurdish army.
