Two solo presentations by the gallery at Art Brussels 2018

April 16, 2018

Flatland is proud to present 2 solo shows at Art Brussels.

Please visit our booths C13 Erwin Olaf and C11 Stelios Karamanolis.

From Erwin Olaf the gallery will bring his new series ‘Shanghai’ (2017). These new scenography photographs are a follow up on his work ‘Berlin’ from 2012. Both were shot on locations with strongly felt history. In ‘Shanghai’ Olaf decomposes slightly the complicated inner thoughts of young Asians dealing with expansionism. The portraits and scenes can be understood as his impression of the everlasting and strongly felt yet slowly declining significance of kinship ties and the power of patronage and old bonds.

FLATLAND is also delighted to present a 25 sq m SOLO SHOW of artist Stelios Karamanolis (1977, Athens) at artbrussels2018. Philosophically driven the work of Karamanolis is the result of a thorough articulation of thoughts, including and transforming an unbroken stream of influences from remote antiquity to contemporary life. In his drawings Karamanolis’ subjects take the form of the living and the non-living, such as figures, trees, a Capricorn, columns or houses. Also the influence of 1960’s comic books is visible through the quick change in tone, from saturated colours and bright palette, facilitating a vigorous tempo to the work.

The gallery will also have works of Gioia de Bruijn, Ruud van Empel and Katharine Cooper.
